PACE-TV Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

1.  What is Public Access TV?

The federal legislation that controls cable TV requires that studios air publicly-produced programming, as well as governmental and educational programming.

2.  What is PACE-TV?

PACE TV (Public Access Cablevision by Elders) is a non-profit public benefit, 501 (c) (3) corporation; an all-volunteer organization formed for the purpose of producing television for cable public-access.  All members are 50 years old or older.  PACE-TV produces shows both in the public programming studio at Time Warner Cablevision, using their professional equipment, and on “location”, using members’ personal equipment.

3.  How long has PACE-TV been in existence?

PACE-TV organized over 25 years ago; over 830 shows have been produced and aired.  We believe it is San Diego’s longest-running Public Access series.

4.  How are productions financed?

All tapes and supplies must be furnished, either by the PACE producer or by the organization that wishes to have its show produced.  These costs are nominal; three 3/4” studio tapes per show are required (a master tape and two copies) per half-hour episode.  These tapes cost about $15.00 each, plus tax. DVDs are also available.

Since contributions to PACE are tax-deductible, a contribution from the organization or individual who wishes to have a PACE production made is suggested (and needed!) in the amount of $35.00 or more.  PACE does not have any grants or other subsidies to finance its activities.

5.  Where is the studio?

The studio is located at 8949 Ware Court.  From I-15, take Miramar Road west to Carroll Road (pyramid); go right on Carroll Road to Ware Ct. (first right turn past the intersection with Camino Santa Fe).  From I-805 or I-5, go east on Miramar Road to Camino Santa Fe--turn left on Camino Santa Fe, left again on Carroll Road, then to Ware Ct. (first right turn).  The studio is at the end of the cul-de-sac.  Park anywhere but in the stalls marked "Customer Service."   Enter through the blue double doors marked “Community Programming”, down the concrete ramp.  It is open at 12:00 noon on our production days.

6.  When will my show be aired?

New shows are normally aired about a month to six weeks after their production.  Your producer will tell you exactly when your show is scheduled for airing.  PACE shows are regularly aired by Time Warner Cable on Channel 19 on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; by Cox Cable (San Diego) on channel 23 on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.; by Cox Cable (North), Channel 18 on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.; by Adelphia Cable (Del Mar), Channel 66, on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. and  repeated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (Shows are not aired on Adelphia Cable Del Mar during the week in which the second Tuesday of the month occurs); by Adelphia Cable (Carlsbad-KDCI) on channel 3 on Monday at 6:30 p.m.  These times are subject to change. Please check the schedules published on this website.

7.  May I have VHS copies of my show?

Your producer can arrange for copies of your show to be made for a nominal donation.
